Jokers #11 - Fear Jennifear she hits #3

A small group of 12 people sat down tonight.  Jenn got off to an early start and dominated throughout.  Jones got on a short stack early and sitting to Jenn's right showed fearless poker as he folded like a cheap card table on most hands they were in together.  Jones had a niece on his lap most of the time wanting to listen to an audio book so this will be a short summary.  Here's your top 3:

    Jennifear - 6445
    I Luv Hotmoms- 9370
    Mellow_Yellow - 1885

Jennifer caught runner runner club with A4 to knock out Mellow who had AJ.  Then just a few hands later Jenn raises with JJ and I luv reraises with 78c, Jenn goes all in and and I luv calls.  Although two clubs hit the board he couldn't hit the final one he needed and Jenn takes her third title.

Jenn is just amazing.  It's hard to describe.  Well I have to go play Old Maid with the niece!

    Until next week,

Jennifear owns the Joker Room #10

Yours truly tried to go back to back tonight and was joined by 14 others.  Good poker tonight.  Jennifear started off as her usual self taking the early chip lead.  Newcomer ucf_engineer was out early and Kate_Starbird followed shortly after.  Play continued for quite a while--then hand 76 happened.  gjones was dealt AA in the big blind.  This could be good.  Hurque in semi early position calls and milady in the small blind calls.  gjones bumps it up over 3x the blind.  Hurque called and Milady gives it up.  The flop is 47J. gjones checks like he has AK.  Hurque checks.  Qc on the turn.  This hits Hurque as Jones is slow playing and checks.  Hurque bets a nice 350.  gjones with only 865 chips left makes his move all in.  Hurque calls and shows Q10.  gjones is gonna take a big pot!!  Well that's what he thought anyway.  A 10 hits on the turn. Dadgummit!!! Your tourney directory does not win two in a row.   gjones niece was in town so he didn't follow the actually too closely after he went out- but he did peek in to watch Jennifear mow them down.  One notable hand had annieboom moving in with JJ and Jennifear made the easy call to knock out the beautiful and lovely looking Annieboom.

    Here's your top 3:
    Jennifear
    HurQueRock
    I Luv Hotmoms

Jenn fairly quickly took out I luv with 1010.  I Luv hit the straight on the river, problem was that filled up Jenn's house.  That gave Jenn a small advantage over Hurque.  Jenn played aggressive poker at one point winning 7 in a row.  After that Hurque tried to get agressive when it backfired on him. He made a big raise with Q9.  Jenn woke up with 10 10 and reraised.  At this point it made sense for hurque to just move all in.  Jenn's 10's held up and it was all over.   Watching Jenn work her magic is just fantastic.  It's this combination of great poker and a little luck.  It really is amazing.

Jenn is the second player to win two Joker room tourneys- just following Mellow_Yellow by two weeks.

    Way to go Jenn!!

    Building a small Bankroll

If you're low on cash like the situation I was just facing, you need a sure fire way to build a little bankroll to get things going again.  $1 sngs are just the place to do that.  I've been on a nice run lately.  Over my last 36 $1 sngs, i've come in first 8 times and in the money 19 times.  For the $39.60 i've spent i've won $69.00 for a net profit of basically $30.  All though you don't win a lot in these games, you don't lose a lot either.  If you lose 3 or 4 in a row without placing you've loss less than $5.  However, that same thing happens in a $5 sng and you've just burned though $20.  Not only do you not lose a lot and win you some, you also gain a lot of knowledge on how players play and start figuring out online betting patterns.  Hopefully this then helps you start winning at the higher levels.  Let's look at some strategies now for these sngs.

    Strategy #1 - Patience
I think patience is the number one asset to have in these sngs.  Most people are inexperienced and others are thinking, well it's just a buck.  Well it's not quite a buck, it's actually a net gain of $3.90 if you win.  4 or 5 of those $3.90's can be a big difference on a small bankroll.  If it's early in the tourney and you hit top pair, you bet and someone reraises you all in, maybe you should think about folding.  In this size of sng it seems like to me that a reraise all in is almost always the nuts or high pair (see more in the C-betting section).    If you fold and wait for a better spot, I think (just my opinion) that you'll win more in the long run.  People playing these just love to go all in.  If you're patient and wait for you're spot, you can just sit there and pick people off.  You also get the benefit of watching others knock each other out.  I've been sitting right there on the bubble many times with almost no chips and contrary to the push all in with a decent hand method when you're low on chips, I'll just wait it out.  I can't give any real numbers, but I've backed into the money a bunch of times by doing this.  Playing solid straight up poker can win you money in these.

Strategy #2 - Limping with Pot Odds
When you have a lot of chips and the blinds are still low, I like to limp a lot.  Limping seems to be the name of the game in these.  When peope do raise, you can almost guaranty that they have JJ-AA or AK.   Now limping has an asterick by it.  I like to limp when others have limped.  The implied odds when you hit (knowing the fact that people love to move all in) are great.  The patience part plays in here.  You have to be careful with these type hands if you limp.  If you limp with K9 suited and hit a K, or J9 and hit a 9, or even 2nd pair, you probably don't have the best hand.  You can again almost guaranty that others here will have limped just caught two pair or have a higher kicker.  Even if you do have them beat and they bet, unless you have a good draw, it's probably best to fold and wait for a better spot.  The payoff comes in when you do flop a straight playing Q8, or Q10, or even have a flush draw.  If someone has hit top pair or has limped with QQ or JJ and they have the overpair, they will almost always go all in.  People just don't lay those down at this level and you can benefit from it.

Strategy #3 - Raise first, then find out where you are
If you've got a decent hand and everyone has folded to you -- raise it.  Then no matter what comes on the flop bet.  You really keep everyone off balance with this strategy.  They are so used to limping, they really don't know what to do when you raise 3x with a good hand and then bet.  They want to limp in and when they can't, they get frustrated.  If they end up calling with a mediocre hand and don't hit, they will fold to you bet.  If they did catch something they will probably re-raise.  If they re-raise all in, you pretty much know you are beat and you can fold (unless of course you flopped a great hand).  In this case, I really haven't seen people bluff much.  When I do think they might be and I call, they seem to always show trips and I'm beat.  It just seems like playing with patience here, you'll make more if you just go ahead and give that one up.  Always betting after raising pre flop accomplishes several things.  If you don't hit and they don't, they will fold and you will win the hand.  If you hit and they hit a little less, since you bet when you had nothing, they don't know what hand to put you on.  They might just call with the lesser hand and you can win a nice pot.

Strategy #4 - Mix it up
Everyone already knows this, so I won't elaborate.  Always mix up your game and do things different.  Keep people guessing.  When I watch Jennifear play, this is her strong point.  I never know what she has.  She fools me all the time.  When I decide to call she has a great hand, and when I fold a good hand she has bluffed.  This is because she really knows how to mix up her game, but its based on a very solid foundation.

Good luck at the tables, and hopefully some of these tips have helped.

JJ #9 Fear Jennifear, but Tourney Director pulls it off

15 players showed up to play for bounties and cash.  Yours truly finally hit his first bounty and win in the Joker tourney after 8 tries!  Jenn played her famous style of poker, maybe a bit less crazy as usual in the invites, but solid play as usual.  She took control just before the final table and showed why she is a premier online player.  But, finally tonight was a good night for the director.  Looking very good at going out before the money again, he had a little help from Jennifear by Jenn knocking out MissThang084.  Then gjones pushed all in with KJ. JakeyLove thought about calling with an A off, but laid it down. A couple hands later gjones went in and JakeyLove called (can't recall the hands) but gjones held up and Jakey finished on the bubble.

    Here's your top three:
    Jennifear
    Mellow_Yellow
    gjones

It was a good battle as gjones and mellow tried to hang in with Jennifear's big chip lead.   Then on hand 172 things changed.  Jenn raises 3x blinds to 900.  Jones picks up 88 in the big blind and raises to 1500.  Jenn just calls here.  The flop is 876.  jones checks, jenn checks.  The turn is 7.  Jones hits the full house and smiles.  Lucky for him Jenn just caught trip 7's.  Jenn bets 1200, Jones moves all in.  Jenn calls and Jones shows her the bad news, doubles up and takes the lead.  Hand 180 was also bad for jenn.  Jenn makes a big raise with Aoff.  Mellow wakes up in the big blind with QQ and pushes all in.   She can't spike the A and she is crippled.  3 hands later she's out when Jones' KJ gets her K3.  Now it's down to gjones and mellow.  jones has a lead of 12.5k to 9.5k for mellow.  It was a good long battle and seemed to go back and forth.  Jones held the lead, lost it and got it back.  Hand 238 was the final blow.  Both guys have Aces in the whole, but Jones' were suited. Two hearts on the flop and Jones pushes all in.  Mellow calls hitting top pair with the A8.  But finally the poker gods were kind to the tourney director and he hits the heart on the turn to win the tourney.

Thanks for letting the tourney director win tonight!!

    Thanks for playing all,
    gjones

JJ #8 Mellow Yellow is not Mellow

A smallish crowd of 12 peeps took it to the poker tables this week to battle it out to be the Joker of the week.  Houn and deeznz were the two unfortunate ones that didn't make the final table.  HooterHanna and spideytwo were ousted within the first 14 hands of the final table.  The tourney director (who has not fared well in his own tourney) quickly followed.  Observer chat wasn't ready again and the tourney director apologizes again.  Annieboom tried a move 31 hands into the finals with A6 with two fives showing on the board.  HurqueRock who had slyly called  from the small blind pre-flop, called with more chips.  Boom was toast when Hurque showed 56.  Hurque contined next by knocking out Jakeylove with trip 3's on the flop to Jakey's top pair of queens.   MissUB was next to go when she pushed with AJ and Mellow_Yellow calls with QQ.  Mellow takes out HurqueRock when his 99 holds up against Hurque's AK.

We were down to the final three money winners:

    Mellow_Yellow - 7380
    Luckie in Lov - 5785
    JuwannaBlowme (aka Tommy1053) - 4610

The battle continued as the three pushed chips around like a communist society.   Mellow finally took a decent lead win he hit the straight and moved all in, but juwanna folded with 2 pr, just missing the flush draw.  Juwanna was worn down after that and got to about 750.  He made a nice move back and got back up to 2500 but just couldn't hang on and was finally whittled out.   That left Mellow with just over 11k in chips and luckie with 5500 in chips (that's about a 2-1 advantage for those mathematically challenged) .  Mellow bullied his way up to 13k in chips.   Finally after a little more back and forth and hand 190 happened.  Mellow raises preflop to 950.  Luckie calls.  After the flop shows AQ2 Luckie bets 1950 and Mellow re-raises.  Luckie pushes all in and Mellow calls.  Both players show A's but Mellow had the better kicker and it was over.

Congrats to Mellow_Yellow who is the first to take down 2 Jones Joker tournaments!!!

Hope to see everyone next week!!

    GolfNutz88 takes the 7th Jones Joker's tourney !

A good showing of 17 peeps sat down for a ol' fashion poker session.   There was some funny hands tonight.   A lot of UB river specials.  One funny hand where JakeyLove is all in with 33 vs Milady's QQ.  A 3 hit's on the river-- Jakey is feeling dirty.  But it was short lived 'cause the Queen hit on the river...

We almost had an all ladies top 3, but golfnutz88 would have none of that and took a huge lead with 3 left.

    You're final three were:
    GolfNutz88 - 18760
    annieboom - 3070
    smokin hot 38 - 2770

smokin took the first double up with A9 vs golf's A3.  Not much after that Golf pushes with 10 10.  Boom picks up AK and calls.  Boom is finished off when golf hits a 10 on the river.  Smokin starts heating up when she doubles up with 1010 over golf's A10. Could there be a chance?  We're looking at an 18k vs 6k difference here.  Smokin takes a nice hand and moves up to almost 9k.  A little battle is brewing here... Not quite as easy as golf was thinking originally.  Hand 126 was it.  Smokin was in the big blind.  Golf nutz raises to not quite 3x blind.  Was that a sign?  Smokin makes a big re raise to 2375.  Golf comments and moves all in (another sign).  Smokin pauses and then calls.  Well the sign was true Golf turns over AA.  Smokin has 1010--- and that was all she wrote.

    Congrats to GolfNutz88!!

    Well played all,

HurQueRock rocks the 6th Jones Joker tourney

An even smaller crowd of 12 peeps (making it easier for tourney director to reach the final table) duked it out until HurQueRock took the title for the week.  Your tourney director bubbles- dadgummit (33 vs AA).

    Here's your top 3:

    HurQueRock 6300
    jakeylove 5010
    deeznz 3360

It was pretty even for a time with the last 3.   HurQueRock played his many AA's well.  He took control when his AQ held up over jakeylove's A10.  Jakeylove made a nice comeback and deeznz was getting low on chips.  deeznz was disconnected and blinded out of the tourney. That left HurqueRock with a 2-1 chip lead for the final 2.  Jakey tried to battle back but it was Hurq's night with the cards.  The final hand proved that- Hurq raised 3x with the A in the hold.  Jakey moves in with QQ.  Hurq has to call now and shows A6.  The flop is 665.  Ouch.  Then just to put a nail in the coffin the A hits on the river and HurQueRocks full house knocks out Jakeylove and Hurq picks up a nice $30 for his efforts.  Jakey picks up $18 and deeznz picks up the remaining slop of $12.

Great job everyone!  Until next week- maybe the tourney director could actually cash or even pick up a bounty!!! :)

Jones Joker Tourney #5 Mellow_yellow brings homes the bacon

A smaller crowd tonight but a bunch of fun.  First note- the tourney director finally makes the final table after five attempts.  michele1024 had the privilege of going out first.   Newcomer what the ffff took the final table lead with solid play.   My good buddy annieboom was knocked out in with QQ when she ran into ffff's AA.  gjones hangs in there when he pulled a 4 out of his hat to catch trips against Jennifear's 99.  He then promptly gave his newly found chips to mellow_yellow when his the A flopped and mellow's AK beat gjones' AJ.   Jennifear was knocked out by Milady and soon thereafter gjones was knocked out by milady.  Maybe you'll cash next time tourney directory...  Boomstick went out next when his under two pair A10 on the flop didn't match fortuitousEd's fortuitous two pair AQ on the flop, always a hard way to go out.   It was a heck of a battle for the money bubble.  Mellow_yellow was looking vulnerable, but doubled up when his KK was better than what the's 77.  Milady become a card rack and was eating everyone up.  Finally what the ffff was taken out when Mellow again had KK and it beat what the's all in of A5.

Your money making three were then:
    Milady1812 - 9110
    fortuitousEd - 7660
    mellow_yellow - 4830

The battle continued and many hands were played.  Milady increased her lead slightly and mellow continued to hover around the 4500 chip mark.   The battle kept continuing as no one would go down quickly.  Wow- what was gonna happen?  Well FortuitousEd finally went out when mellow hit a straight on the river.  Mellow was way down in chips and we all thought he was left for dead.  But after a couple of double ups it was now pretty much a tie ball game.  I thought it was over when an all in battle occured with Milady having AJ and Mellow having A10.  But this night, short wasn't the way and after the board paired up and a Q showed, it was a split.   Mellow edged his way out to a slight lead.  I think both players were getting tired as they were moving with less hands.  Finally mellow moved with K10 and Milady called with A6.  Mellow hit the 10 and finally it was done.  Mellow_yellow took home the bacon (well a nice $37.50 anyway).

Great job tonight everyone and ...

    Thanks for playing!!!

Jones Joker Room Tourney #4 - Glenso rules

A record 24 peeps (well in only 4 tournaments) showed up tonight and played some great poker.  My buddy Woooody was knocked out first.  As seems to be usual the tourney directory, yours truly, was knocked out early again when Phisterbottom caught a Q on the river and his trip Q's beat gjones KK pocket pair.  The joker room has not been kind so far to the directory, but I know things will change. :)  In top 4 action michele1024 had a big lead and all of the sudden went dead in just a few hands and was kncoked out in 4th.  Here's your top 3:

    glenso - 15180
    DriveULoonie - 14390
    annieboom - 5300

Glenso started taking command early moving up to 20k in chips.  Drive was at 10k and Queen Joker Boom was hanging on at 4500.  Boom made a nice all in move with 88.  Drive makes the call and shows 10 J.  The flop looked good for boom as a 7 5 2 hit.  However, DriveU caught the J on the turn and boom was out in 3rd place making a nice $24.   Just two hands later it ended as I will let UB call the action:

    Pre-flop: Glenso calls. DriveULoonie checks.

Flop (board: 9c Jh 3c): Loonie checks, Glenso bets 1800.  DriveULoonie raises to 7200. Glenso goes all in for 18660 and Loonie calls.  Showdown time:
Glenso: 8h Th - open ended straight draw
    DriveULoonie: 3h Jc - top pair J's

Turn 5d, River 7s. Glenso hits the 7 for the straight to win tourney #4.

    Congrats Glenso!!

Thanks everyone for making this a fantastic tourney and see you next week!!!

    Hazy_Cat wins Joker Room 3

It took 50 minutes to get to the final table tonight.  A bit longer than the week before.  It was just good solid poker.  A few typical UB things here and there.  Your tourney director was knocked out when his 1010 was up against KK and AA. Surprisingly medic_chicky's AA held!!  Here's your top 5:

    Brenia - 10796
    Woooody - 4800
    troiano27 - 3860
    hazy_cat - 3610
    annieboom - 2435

troiano gets knocked out first when moves all in on the turn with trip 8's after Brenia makes a big raise.   Problems is Brenia had caught a straight on the turn and troiano was gone.  annieboom goes out on the bubble when she moves all in with A8. Brenia calls with AQ though and boomer was gone.  Wooody was shortstacked with about 4k in chips and Brenia and hazy had about 10k.   Woooody makes a big switcharoo with hazy when he catches a flush on the river.  Two hands later, Hazy gets it right back when he gets dealt pocket rockets.  Woooody and Hazy keep duking it out and finally Hazy get's the best of it by knocking out wooody with a straight over Woooody's two pair.  That made Brenia and Hazy fairly equal in chips with Hazy having a slight advantage.  It was a quick head to head battle.  Brenia get's AJ and raises to 600.  Hazy makes a loose call with 52 but is rewarded on the flop with trip 5's.  Brenia raises, hazy moves all in and Brenia calls and is gone.  A purrrrrfect night for the kitty.

The tourney director profusely apologizes for not getting the observer chat open.  He will work on this very hard to not let it happen again.

    Thanks for playing!!!!

SpideyTwo wins 2nd Jones' Joker Room Tourney

16 peeps sat down tonight to duke it out at the poker tables.  A good time was had by most.    No luck for the tourney directory and master joker gjones.  After getting pummeled by an inside jab by IdBlondee catching a flush on the river, she gave Jones the full knockout about two hands later when he hit trips A's on the river, but alas, that filled up blondee's AK and gjones was first out.  It was quick getting the the final table and the blinds were still low.   Play was soon down to the final four as spideytwo (aka gjones) was catching cards and knocking people out.  Hazy_Cat was following close behind.  Here's the final four:

    Spideytwo - 12515
    Hazy_Cat - 5665
    annieboom - 2960
    idblondee - 2660

The women hung in there, but then blondee pushed on the button with A6 and ran in to spidey's 88 and blondee was out on the money bubble.  gg blondee.  Spideytwo kept increasing his lead and was dominating.  Then things unravelled quickly. Hazy pulled once from under his cat hat when he hit an 6 on the turn and his A6 knocked out booms AK.  Then just as soon, Hazy raises S2 with AK. Spideytwo calls with KQ and flops KQ.  Hazy raises, spideytwo reraises and Hazy pushes all in and that was the night.

Spideytwo is the 2nd Jones Joker room tourney champion!!!

1st Jones' Joker Tourney Complete! Jennifear wins!

19 very tough poker poker peeps sat down at the very first Jones' Joker tourney.  Two tough tables to start and not a fish could be seen.  The tourney started off in usual fashion with Jenn taking control.  She almost immediately knocked out Kate Starbird (aka papoorboy) and had the early chip lead. Kate got the honor of going out first in the first Joker tourney.

The final table was set after gjones' AK couldn't hold up to the weinerizer's Q10 when weiner caught a Q.  Peeps were going out fast and furious after the final table started.  The final five looked like this:

    Top 5
    10770 - weinerizer
    9570 - jennifear
    4490 - hurquerock

Weiner had a nice run going knocking out mellow when he called mellow's all in with a straight draw and ended up catching a pair of Js on the river to best mellow's 10s.

Bug took it hard when Jenn called his all in showing her pocket 7s and Bug had pocket 9's.  Jenn's mix of great play and luck helped her here when she catches a 7 on the turn.

Jenn then knocked out hurque when her pair of 5's held up vs hurque's AK.

It was down to heads up.  Jennifear had the early lead heads up but weiner made it a game by doubling up when he caught a 5 and his A5 overtook Jenn's AK.  But Jenn was too tough this night and came out the winner when her middle pair of 10's were better than weiner's pocket 6's and Jenn took the first ever Jones Joker Tourney title!!!

I can't think of another person (other than me-lol) that was so fitting to win this inaugural tourney.

Great job to all.  Thanks for playing and hope to see you next week!!!

    Jones' Joker Room

    Welcome to Jones' Joker Room!

I'll be starting a weekly tournament soon on Ultimate Bet!!  Inaugural tourney looks to be April 11, 2007.  We're going to have a fun and friendly weekly No limit hold 'em tourney on Wed's nights at 11pm est.  The format will be a buy in of $6.50.  $5 to the winner's pool with standard UB payout.  $1 will go to the bounty pool. Each person you knock out, you will be credited their bounty.  I've enjoyed this format in recent tournaments and think it will suit a bunch of joker's well.   Would love to have you join.  Email me at jonesjokerroom@yahoo.com for more details.
